Where on earth has the time gone? Ah! I realize I haven't posted in ages, so here we go!
Seussical, is wonderful. Its been coming along quite welll, and with less stress as possible... Despite some "cast unity" issues we've had, they ulitmately have made us a stronger cast and more connected. It's been an amazing experience, and I really have no doubt this show won't go off with a hit. Tonight we participated at my high school community night where a ton of families bring their kids to the school and theres concession stands, blow up bouncy houses, games, etc. (like an indoor fair, sorta) anddd we decided we wanted to sing "Oh The Things You Can Think", and even though not everyone could hear us, they could tell we were really into it with our energy and we passed out almost 90 ticket order forms, which excites me! (also since my family are the ones who the tickets, so it makes my mom happy :)) Just the other day a girl scout troop leader called and said she has a group of 33 and 19 of them are little girls... * cue the awhs*. Theres something about Seussical that just makes you feel really good about yourself and that you are able to reach out to the community, especially the little kids!
But anywho... Like I said, Seussical is going awesome and it really hasnt been tooo stressful like past years. We have the entire show blocked and were still working on perfecting some scenes and dance numbers, but we're starting to do runs of Acts each night so we can see where we need to do some more work. I feel really confident about Gertrude and recently I've just been concentrating on having fun with the character, and my best character decisions tend to happen when I do that, so I'm going to continue with that. Even though Gertrude is basically a literary version of me, I have been able to find things and exaggerate them, since one, its theatre and it makes it more interesting, but also that I'm always complaining how all the characters I get are always just like me, so I want to change that, or improve it for Gertrude. I think my favorite part about this whole experience and the show weekend will having little kids come up to me and want my autograph and some Gertrude Love! Just thinking about it gives me the chills... Its truly amazing what goes on in a childs mind and something that they see you do on stage could stay with them for the rest of their life. For example, my first show was at my high school and I was 4, and it was Cinderella, and I still remember parts of it, and how I decided I wanted to do theatre. And then I saw Guys & Dolls when I was in third grade at my high school as well, and I still remember that as well. I want to impact some little kid out there, who will be the "mini" me and decide at a young age they want to do theatre, or even have the strength and determination to follow their dreams, since "Oh the Things you can think when you think about SEUSS!"
ps- my birthday is the 24th, the day before opening night, aka dress rehearsal, and its my sweet sixteen, and so my friends decided to give me my pre-birthday gift to me last night, 3 weeks before my birthday, and heres the picture....
